Ballots for LAFCo's Special District Representative election are due January 25th! For an election to be valid, at least a quorum of the special districts must submit valid ballots. A quorum was not achieved by the initial ballot deadline of November 23, 2020. Per Government Code (GC) §56332(f)(6), if a quorum of ballots is not received by the due date, the Executive Officer shall extend the date to submit ballots by 60 days and notify all districts of the extension.
The election will fill one vacancy that is the remainder of an unexpired term ending on December 31, 2022, previously held by John Huff of the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District. The other special district regular seat is a four-year term ending on December 31, 2024.
The process for selecting special district members to LAFCo is set forth in GC §56332. Consistent with that section of code, both the nominating process and the election itself is being conducted by mail by the LAFCo Executive Officer on behalf of the Independent Special District Selection Committee.20210122 LAFCo Special District Election Ballot Tracking.pdf
