Now Accepting Applications for Public Member!
Application deadline: December 14, 2026
The Mendocino Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) invites applications for the Public Member position on the Commission. The appointee will complete a four-year term ending December 31, 2030.
LAFCo is an independent, quasi-legislative agency created by the State of California in 1963. Its statutory responsibilities include discouraging urban sprawl, encouraging the orderly formation and development of governmental agencies, and preserving agricultural and open space resources.
The Commission may approve or disapprove proposals to annex land to or detach land from cities and special districts in Mendocino County. It also considers proposals to form new cities and special districts.
The Commission has seven regular voting members: two County members appointed from the Board of Supervisors, two city members selected by the City Selection Committee, two special district members elected by the County’s independent special districts; and one public member. There are also four alternate members, one for each member category.
Mendocino LAFCo meets at 9:30 a.m. on the first Monday of each month in the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors Chambers. Special meetings are held as needed.
Public members represent all Mendocino County residents in an objective and impartial manner. Applicants must be residents of Mendocino County, be able to attend LAFCo meetings regularly, and may not be current elected or appointed public officers or an employee of the County, a city, or a special district in Mendocino County. The Public Member is a public official and must file an annual financial disclosure statement with the California Fair Practices Commission, the County and LAFCo.
Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a completed application, and a resume describing relevant experience and service. Application forms are available at www.mendolafco.org.
PUBLIC MEMBER APPLICATIONAll application materials must be received by December 14, 2026. Submit materials to the LAFCo office at 200 S. School Street, Ukiah, CA 95482, or by email to eo@mendolafco.org.
